Amesh Debuts with a Gender Neutral Collection at London Fashion Week SS18

Amesh Wijesekera showcased his debut collection at London Fashion Week SS18 in collaboration with SRI, a luxury sustainable lifestyle label launching in February 2018.

In Sanskrit, ‘SRI’ means resplendent, a name which encapsulates the unique beauty of the design but also the pride and wonder of a nation looking to its future.

 SRI is an inspiring bridge between two worlds. This trans-seasonalbrand (gender neutral) is a unique and creative meeting of the millennia-old wisdom of South Asia and the progressive, technologically advanced demands of global high fashion.

 Low-tech meets high-tech in a progressive new addition to the luxury design market.

 An alumnus of the AOD Colombo in Sri Lanka, Amesh captures the essence of his home country; celebrated by the sophisticated traveller as a tropical paradise, the island is filled with pristine white-sand beaches, lush tropical forests and breathtaking mountains.

The debut collection for SRI perfectly depicts the cultural inspiration of Early Ceylon; the history, lifestyle and fashions whilst Amesh creates a modern and contemporary range appealing to a cultured, carefree, adventurous consumer.

 SRI is unique and Amesh has worked closely with design leaders in his native homeland; the range is a mixture of local craft blended with modern techniques; dip dyeing and screen prints are expertly blended with hand woven silks.

 Working with local weaving villages, local craftspeople have highlighted their expertise through their intricate handcrafted overshots, twills, ombre and herring bone effects.

 SRI serves as a source of comfort, self-confidence and self-expression as effortlessly in the urban jungles of London and New York in winter as amidst the rainforests and beaches of their island of origin in the blaze of summer.

D.GNAK SS18 menswear collection at London Fashion Week:Mens

For SS18, South Korean menswear brand D.GNAK makes its debut at London Fashion Week:Men.

The primary inspiration is from 'inevitable interaction' i.e. the coming together of two powers Yin and Yang to one stoppable end.

Whilst the collection continues with D.GNAK's trademark of achromatic fusion of traditional Korean menswear and Western tailoring. this season they have introduce colour - beiges, mustards and yellows.

Accents of bold red signifying destiny - a word that appears in Sanskrit embroidered into garments with trailing threads.

Utility details accessorise the minimal silhouettes with strings, zips, belt loops and buckles.

D.GNAK collaborated with Universal Brand development to create five items inspired by Universal Pictures 'The Mummy' .

 Like the collection, it is a narrative shot through with ideas of destiny, inevitability and culture that cannot be constrained by time nor place.

Tourne de Transmission SS18 Collection at London Fashion Week Men

Titled The Lies That Bind, Graeme Gaughan, creative director, wanted to touch on the lack of transparency within policy, politics and media by adding layers of transparent materials to classic items such as trench coats and other outerwear.

There are additional elements of interchangeable text that can be changed as the wearer sees fit, alluding to the fact that society accepts or resists what we are media fed, generally changing our perspective based on what suits our personal circumstances at that point.

In addition, deconstructed elements of the garments exist via referencing divisions in society, bound by industry which overpowers and holds everything together.

Side panels are opened in the construction process - held together via industrial straps that can be loosened or tightened at the wearers behest - The Lies That Bind.

Ports 1961 AW17 Menswear - Army of Love

The word “love” is the same in traditional Chinese and Japanese characters.

For the Ports 1961 fall-winter 2017-2018 collection, Milan Vukmirovic also prints “love” in English, Arabic, French and Russian on sportswear hoodies.

Not only is this collection younger than in past seasons, it is also more minimalist. Informed by the artistic director’s early years — the early Nineties, the energy of the London scene, and the music and images of a time when the idea of a new century elicited excitement and a hint of apprehension — it also reflects the lightning changes in today’s world.

 Ports 1961 men are armed for whatever the day brings.

In the city, they sport protective clothing inspired by urban work wear. Reflective bands stripe parkas borrowed from construction sites,

Bombers are reversible, coats have slit sleeves and trousers are piped,

 Sweaters are chunky, hoods removable and shirtfronts quilted.

Blousons are studded with buckles and harness straps,

 The cuts are clean, ample, transformable and efficient. The wardrobe is assertive, right down to its colors. Two-toned silhouettes, blocked in contrasting shades of black, grey and white.

 Plus pops of  orange , yellow and red, which infuse the collection with buoyant energy.

Stripes give the collection its tempo.

There’s also the camouflage print motif Milan Vukmirovic has loved forever.

 Otherwise, materials are primarily sober, solid and thick, often with raw edging. Robust cotton canvas, deep diagonal twills, dense fleece and real nylon underscore the virility of this chic sportswear offering.

But for all its masculinity, the collection has lots of charm and heart. The white shirt – a house icon – is embellished with strategically placed red embroidery representing that vital organ, which sits precisely over the breast of young love warriors in search of emotional rescue.
