Bobby Abley AW19 Collection at London Fashion Week Men's

For Autumn-Winter 2019, Bobby Abley takes inspiration from his family and hometown of Scarborough, where he worked on the collection.

Abley revisits his childhood; balaclavas, scarves and baby blankets are all replicated, hand knitted by his mother (and other relatives) and incorporated within the collection as one-off pieces.The family team of knitters also created cardigans and jumpers in fluorescent colours – a palette which recurs throughout the collection.

The rest of the colours in the collection are inspired by Abley’s favourite characters from Pokémon. Fiery oranges of Charmander,

soft lilac of Mewtwo,

powdery blues of Squirtle

and of course, the unmistakable sunshine yellow of Pikachu.

 These hues appear vividly throughout the collection, along with the characters themselves as repeat motifs.

The Poké Ball is interpreted as a technical poncho, oversized polo shirt, backpack and cross-body bag,

whilst Pokémon-inspired football kits see a return in acid neon.

bley’s characteristic sportswear-inspired and technical fabrics feature heavily, with the addition of corduroy wide-cut trousers,

and a blanket tracksuit with appliquéd leather lettering spelling out ‘Whatever Forever’down the sleeves – the wording of one of the designers many tattoos.

Titled  Bobbyland – the collection takes you to a vibrant and colourful place.

 Populated with characters from the world of Warner Bros Looney Tunes – including Road Runner and Sylvester

- Bobbyland welcomes everyone both international and interplanetary – including Marvin the Martian who appears on the back of his own Legal Alien sweatshirt which was created exclusively for Urban Outfitters.

And also centre stage on the intarsia knit collaborated with Electronic Sheep

 Colour and texture are key to the collection, with brightly-hued oversized plaid shirts and pleated tailored trousers,

 and knitwear by Electronic Sheep splicing Looney Tunes graphics in clashing tones.

 Outerwear includes faux fur trimmed padded bomber jackets

 and roomy parkas in neoprene and mohair adorned with jewels.

A signature Tweety Pie sweatshirt is embellished with hand-applied marabou,

 and fluffy Bugs Bunny inspired dungarees are worn with a bunny ears bandana and gold grill by Shadi at Gold Pointers.

Bobby Abley AW17 menswear inspired by Power Rangers

Bobby Abley Powers Up for AW17 with Bobby Abley x Power Rangers - a collection inspired by the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Putting his stamp on a piece of pop culture history, the bright palette of the Ranger's colourful costumes dominates the collection contrasted by neutral tan tones.

Channeling the Power Ranger's roots in martial arts, trailing straps in bright colours are tied around the wrist as a nod to martial arts belts.

The Rangers' dinosaur alter egos inspired stencil like prints set against a BA monogram.
For Bobby Abley, personal references provade the collection from the 'Whatever Forever' print sweatshirt based on a tattoo on the designer's hand, to hints of his ever present fascination with the colours and culture of Brazil.

This season sees the addition of tricot track suiting and the re-introduction of knitwear and denim alongside colour blocked mohair and faux fur panels for winter alongside the neoprene fabrication that's become synonymous with the Bobby Abley brand.
