Hentsch Man SS15 Collection - La Cantina

With oversized leafy floral blooms, washed out pinks and aqua faded by the sun, the Hentsch Man 'La Cantina' Collection draws upon the dazed summer nights of South america for SS15.

Designer Alexia Hentsch was inspired by childhood memories of seeing gangs of super slick dressed young men wearing panama hats and printed loose flowing shirts, all brightly popping with colour against the sun burnt walls of the back city streets of Brazil. So the story of the collection shows young guys summer street life, smoking cigars, drinking rum and playing dominos through the long warm nights, with a setting of pastel coloured washed out walls, synonymous with the back streets of Havana and Rio.

The La Cantina collection takes a trip through the depths of a South American urban summer, with bolshy influences of favela city life whilst retaining Hentsch Man's classic silhouettes and punchy prints.

Casual tailored suiting in a tropical palette of pastels, alongside  lightweight outerwear of sail jackets and macs are new for the season.

Craig Green Spring/Summer 2014 Collection

The models in Craig Green's SS14 runway show appear like nuclear zone warriors carrying large plywood sculptured shields.

Whilst bandage like scarves obscured most of the models’ face and vision.

Multi layered as though the warrior needs the protection, included short sleeved tops over long sleeved, tunics under jackets and wide cropped trousers over jogging style trousers.

Raw edges and seams were frayed and black chunky woollens worn inside out.

Colour palette was either the ninja black and neutral creams.

(Craig Green  18 & 20)
Or a literal explosion of tie dye multi colours splashed like paint over the pieces.

Craig Green was chosen to participate in the MAN SHOW SS14 created by Topman and Fashion East to help a selection of emerging fashion designers showcase their designs on the catwalk.

Alan Taylor Spring/Summer 2014 Collection

Graduating in 2010 with a BA in fashion, Dublin born Alan Taylor's SS14 collection  goes for a kind of sartorial street urchin look.
Colours are a muted palette of greys and berry in fabrics of grainy tweeds with elbow length sleeved jackets and side slit shorts.

Accents of pale pink and white lightened the dominant greys.

Smoother fabrics included linen suits....

.... and black transparent organza jackets with less opaque lapels, seams and patch pockets over white shirts.

Skinny cropped trousers created a slim silhouette.

Whilst deconstructed jackets, shirts and jumpers attached to tops hung down like aprons adding volume.

Bobby Abley Spring/Summer 2014

Emerging fashion designer Bobby Abley’s SS14 runway show started with fairytale model princes wearing leather cut outs of crowns.

Abley’s own signature design of the Teddy Bear silhouette was incorporated on to tops...

... and hidden in between the regal Fleur de Lys.

Disney Snow White’s blue bird fluttered around as tattoos on the models faces, necks, arms and knees as well as shirts and tees.

Like the fairy tales the colour palette was sugar sweet with candy pinks, powdery greys....

.... and basket weave prints of golden toffee.

Christoper Raeburn Spring/Summer 2014

Christopher Raeburn is renowned for breathing life back into surplus military fabrics by creating new modern clothing. For his SS14 collection he also turned to the military for inspiration.

Titled Sandstorm, Raeburn looked at the desert uniforms and camouflage colours of the Long Range Desert Group, a British Army reconnaissance and raiding unit in North Africa during WWII.

Surplus military fabrics used included a camouflage bivouac sheet made from 1950’s original rubberised cotton.  Here shown on a Field jacket with draw cord waist and the sleeves of a bomber jacket.

Camouflage print army mesh lines and peeps through the lightweight sand coloured parachute jacket.

Whilst a diaphanous camouflage print covers mint coloured army mesh to create a double layered boxy t-shirt.

Blending old and new, Raeburn also used the high Tec Schoeller fabric - a four way stretch material which offers thermal insulation but is also lightweight, soft and highly breathable.  The design of the print is a stark interpretation of satellite desert imagery.

As a Cool Wool regulating the body temperature by releasing excess heat through its fibres Raeburn chose Merino wool for the softer side to his summer collection.

Main colour palette is neutral shades of sand and khaki with accents of bright blues and pinks.

The pinks represent the colour once used on the unit’s Land Rovers and reveal how broad the colour palette had to be for effective desert camouflage.

Each season Raeburn includes an animal and this season it of course had to be the desert lizard.
You really have to look closely to realise that the lizard has cleverly camouflaged itself to form the geometric mosaic pattern on the t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts and jackets.

A key look in the tailored range of the collection is the gabardine Mac coat with the geometric lizard print.
