The phenomenon surrounding LYNX Apollo, the
largest and most successful campaign in the brand’s 30-year history, is coming
to its epic conclusion in December 2013 at the LYNX Space Academy®1 (L.S.A.). After
receiving one million entries from all corners of the world, LYNX has selected
four brave recruits to represent Great Britain. These recruits will have the
opportunity to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey: a trip to space onboard
a Space Expedition Corporation (Space XC) shuttle.
The
final four were chosen after a shortlist of 250 people descended upon
Westfield, White City to compete in L.S.A Live. The two-day event saw cadets
compete in a series of physical and mental challenges including the giant
“Launch Pad” – an 18m x 9m inflatable assault course, which is used by the
British Army for testing fitness, stamina and agility.
The
four lucky cadets heading to Florida Space Camp to compete in the final
challenge to go to space are – Joshua Ratcliffe, 21, a budding guitarist and
student from Manchester, Nadav Eldar, 23, a Philosophy & Japanese student
at the University of Leeds, Oliver Knight, 25, an Operations Engineer from
Malvern in Worcestershire and Jocelino Rodrigues, a 19 year-old Aerospace
Engineering student at the University of Bristol.
One hundred plus recruits from more than 60
countries will gather at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL to
compete for the chance to receive one of 23 coveted tickets to space. There
they will push the boundaries of their physical and mental limits by taking
part in a series of L.S.A. space training missions to experience what life is
like as an astronaut – from floating weightless onboard a Boeing 727, to
experiencing pressure four times the force of gravity, to piloting a SIAI
Marchetti
Air Combat plane.
