VINTAGE COLLECTION

For Spring/Summer 13 Farah has turned to the land of the rising sun for its inspiration. Building on the success of the Autumn collection’s 50’s theme, they add a kick of wasabi from the extremes of Japanese fashion. Farah blends the machismo of 1950s Americana with the bright lights of Tokyo, to create an inspired mishmash of print, pattern, texture and colour, all the while staying true to the brand’s British roots and urban heritage

Ted Baker Footwear x Fashion Blogger Prince Cassius = Two new Derby Brogues.

In honour of all fashion bloggers, Ted Baker Footwear names two of their SS13 shoes after the ‘Prince’ of Fashion Bloggers: Mr Prince Cassius.
Having met with Ted’s cobblers earlier in 2012, Prince chose two favourite styles in the SS13 collection, one is casual and one formal, lending his name and charisma to both ‘Jamfro’ and ‘Cassius’.

The Jamfro is a soft suede leather derby brogue with a carefree holiday feel to them.  It has a contrasting white rubber sole, white stitch details and white laces.

A light chalky grey shade is available through House of Fraser
http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Ted+Baker+Jamfro+suede+brogue+shoes/180581998,default,pd.html

And soon to come is the beautiful pastel sky blue shade.
And why the name Jamfro It is a combination of the Swahili welcome word ‘Jambo’ and Afro the haircut. Actually Prince always refers to his own well coiffed and over sized afro style as a ‘Fro’

Cassius (no prizes for the origin of this name) is another derby brogue shoe. This time in the more formal style of the spectator shoe with the toe and heel cap in a darker contrasting colour.. The Cassius also takes the spectator concept further with a contrast of materials used, a combination of leather and canvas.
For that added dapper touch, the lining is in a navy polka dot design. Price £130
Black and grey comb available soon

Prince has over 8,600 twitter followers who avidly read all about his fashion news and updates. His twitter name is @PRINCECASSIUS if you too would like to follow him.

Quality suit at good prices - It's all in the detailing

We've looked at the fabric, lining and canvas. Now it's the turn of the little details that maketh the quality suit.
Working Cuffs
The story goes that Napoleon first put buttons on the cuffs of his soldiers’ uniform to stop them from wiping their noses on their sleeves.  You’d think that would have been the least of his worries! And those poor soldiers having to look for a handkerchief in the middle of battle!
However, buttons were not put on suit cuffs for the same reason but to enable the sleeves to be rolled back whilst working.  These ‘working ‘ cuffs (button holes that actually open), are a sign of a quality suit.  And Saville Row go one step further saying that a good suit should always have four buttons on the cuffs.

Charle Tyrwhitt navy Italian travel suit
Charles Tyrwhitt Italian travel suits have working four button cuffs with natural corozo buttons. This collection is a herringbone suit in 3 colour tones –charcoal, black or navy. Normal price is £600 but with their May promotion they are £299. They have a high twist yarn to resist creasing and so perfect for travelling.  2 button single breasted jacket, 100%wool woven in Italy. Trousers half lined to the knees. www.ctshirts.co.uk

Kissing or stacked buttons (slightly overlapping) on jacket sleeves are a sign of a good suit. Originally they indicated that the suit was handmade rather than machine made as the buttons were not perfectly aligned.  Now it is possible to have on machine made suits but it is still a sign that some care has been taken to make the suit.
Duchamp electric mohair suit at House of Fraser

Brighten up your day in the Duchamp single breasted electric mohair suit with kissing buttons on the cuffs. Available from House of Fraser. £565
70% wool and 30% kid mohair. Extra detailing is:  double vents, angled flap pockets, lilac butterfly jacquard viscose lining, silk woven butterfly pocket triangle on inside, laser cut filigree resin buttons and exclusive butterfly embroidered melton www.houseoffraser.co.uk

Horn Buttons - made from horn or bone rather than plastic. And if you can’t get horn then corozo is a good option. Referred to as ‘vegetable ivory’, corozo buttons have high scratch resistance and can withstand high and cold temperatures, which helps if the suit needs to be dry cleaned.
Charles Tyrwhitt’s suits in their Black label collection have natural horn buttons.

Charles Tyrwhitt Classic selection

Their cheapest range, the Classic wool suit, has natural corozo buttons.  The suits come in black & white dogstooth, twill (navy or mid grey), chalk stripe (navy or charcoal) and charcoal sharkskin. These are all 2 button but you can get 3 button suits in navy and mid grey twill. All normally at £400 but in their May promotion for £200. They may be cheaper but they still are great quality with 100% wool, floating canvas chest piece, 4 working button cuff, natural corozo buttons and trousers half lined to the knee. www.ctshirts.co.uk

All prices correct at time of publication

Shirt & Tie - The Romantic Look

Get in touch with your feminine side with floral and paisley patterns. These have become very  popular in shirts and ties , and give the wearer a softer more romantic look.
Matalan floral shirt from PR Shots
If you are unsure of this look then Matalan have a white and purple floral shirt at only £16 (at time of print), so if you decide florals are not for you then losing that shirt off your back won’t be a big financial loss.
And if you find saying it with flowers works for you then go for.......
Eton Hostage of Love shirt

.......this Eton floral print with purple collar shirt from their ‘Hostage of Love’ collection. Very retro which is soooo on trend and going to be big for the summer. The good thing about floral shirts is they look complete even without a tie, but if you do need a tie then either play safe and match with a plain tie in the main colour of the shirt (in this case purple) or pick out an accent colour (pink). Or. ...
House of Fraser tie from PRShots
..... be more daring and romantic with another floral pattern. Again either pair with a purple floral tie or pick out the pink in the shirt. This pink tie has also tiny amounts of lilac to match the shirt.
But if you're not ready for so much flower power just yet then go more subtle with ...
Ted Baker Pashion shirt from PR shots

Ted Baker ‘Booton’ navy floral jacquard pashion (a merging of passion and fashion) shirt. Uising one colour tones down the floral pattern.

Then bring it alive with a more flamboyant floral tie.

If flowers are not your thing then go for paisley

bring out the accent colours with this contrasting tie.

Simon Carter love bird shirt
If you're all 'loved up', team the tie with this Simon Carter's love bird shirt.

Eton checked shirt & paisely tie
But alas, if it's all too much just go with a paisley tie with a more masculine check, stripe or plain shirt.

And now you've got the romantic look, remember to act the part and be romantic.
