Prophetik AW12 sustainable menswear collection at London Fashion Week

Last season (Spring/Summer 2012) ethical designer Jeff Garner took a break from London Fashion Week, but this season he’s back.
Titled ‘Courtly Love’, Garner was inspired by Princess Grace and her noble gentleman who courted her.

Not sure why the first models had a Scottish theme but it’s always great to see a man in a kilt.
Here a red tartan kilt and sporran style bag was paired with waistcoat and red check shirt giving a rugged look.
The next outfit was more dapper with a plain grey kilt teamed with a dark red jacket, cream waistcoat and ruffle fronted dress shirt.  Last AW11, Garner had introduced his grandma, Lola’s quilt in to his collection, this season he adds it as the apron front to the kilt.

Garner’s jodhpur style trousers were present in a washed out red, dressed up with a pink waist coat and white military style jacket with blue lapels. But also cutting a striking figure in black and matched with a monochrome checked short jacket and waistcoat with a Nehru collar ruffle dress shirt

His civil war striped style trousers were given a more relaxed look teamed with a baggy beige cardigan and cream blouson shirt.
Main colours of peach, pink, red, cream with black and white, all made from plant and earth-based dyes.

A lover of the Renaissance flare, the last outfits became more flamboyant with a romantic floral trellis print coat in pale pink;....
... and a black coat rich in gold brocade worn with peach shirt embellished with pale blue ruffles – definitely fit for a Princely Court.

Titled ‘Artist Wonderment’,

designer Jeff Garner was inspired by the fashionable French court of Louis XV where frivolity reigned and egos were high, but turns this pretension around to appreciate the wonderment of an artist.

Prophetik is an ethical range so the fabrics used are eco-friendly such as hemp and organic velour.
He’s introduced two new fabrics this season:

The quilts came in to their own here as a cosy pink and blue coat with large frilled collar, it wasn’t the case as wherever I lay my hat is my home, rather wherever I lay my coat is my bed –now that’s recycling at its best .

Prophetik at London Fashion Week

Tennessee based Prophetik kicked off the LFW catwalk shows at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Freemason’s Hall, Covent Garden. And what a kick off!!!

At the beginning we are lulled in to thinking of a carefree southern country theme when violinist Anna Cwad starts playing toe tapping music, with ex-Paramore Jason Bynum joining her on guitar. Then the band Man Raze shatters this illusion with their fusion of punk and pop rock. Not surprising as their drummer is ex-Sex Pistols Paul Cook and their vocals/lead guitar is ex-Def Leppard Phil Collen. And let’s not forget their bass guitarist Simon Laffy from Brit glam rock act band Girl.

With Man Raze raising the tempo, the show began for ethical designer Jeff Garner’s Autumn winter 2010 collection titled “Southern Shores”. His inspiration came from the American Civil War and sees hope and romance alongside strife and uncertainty.

Main colour palette in true Civil War colours were blues, greys with a touch of red.

The menswear saw layering and serious looking ¾ length coats, waistcoats, vintage buttons, riding boots and peace silk neckties.
Garner’s collection is proof that no fashion look has to be harmed in the making of ethical clothing.

Prophetik is a sustainable men’s and womenswear label using environmentally friendly materials such as organic cottons, hemp, flax, Greenspun (recycled bottles) and organic pigment dyes. One of their signature dresses “the Elle” is made from silk and organic cotton that elephants have painted in collaboration with the AEACP (Asian Elephant Art Conservation Project), which helps to raise funds for an elephant sanctuary in Thailand.”
