A New Year - A New Place to Shop- Brian Clarke's New Flagship Store

Happy New Year!

Have you made a New Year Sartorial Resolution?

Then check out luxury menswear designer Brain Clarke’s new flagship boutique just off Marylebone High Street for your new sartorial shopping spree. Here you will see high quality tailoring using cloth produced by the mills in Scotland and Italy whilst Clarke takes the classic heritage look and adds his own contemporary touch.

For his SS12 collection he takes his inspiration from the nineteenth century young academics:

A softer modern bib front on Clarke’s shirts emulates the traditional starched shirt fronts, and the high standing rounded collars the look that was so popular in mid 1800 Eton College.
Tan leather brogues are given a twist with off centre lacing and the Regatta blazer is available in double as well as the traditional single breasted.

For  the present colder winter months he updates  two traditional coat styles:

The classic rugged pea coat shows its softer side with faux fur. Price £800. And the sheepskin coat‘s cheeky ‘Delboy’ reputation is replaced with an edgy and trendier look by Clarke’s design of a  slimmer fit, unfinished edges, double breasted and detachable hood.

Loving his cosy sheepskin aviator jacket at the hot price of £1,200

Clarke’s new boutique also provides in-store bespoke tailoring.
Address: 26 Paddington Street, Marylebone, W1U 5QY.

Shirt & Tie - The Dramatic Look

For those days when you want to create an impact go for the Dramatic look.
Bright colour block shirts combined with equally bright contrasting colour block ties, or bold patterned shirt and tie combination will give high impact but you need to consider your own colouring and whether you can take such bold colours and patterns.
Eton striped shirt with circle tie
This Eton striped shirt with circle tie is a good choice for the dramatic look. If the colours are too bright and deep for you then go for a Paul Smith shirt in the label’s signature coloured stripes to create a more subdued dramatic alternative look.
Eton Circle Spot shirt

If you don't mind deep colours but prefer them more muted than bright, then check out Eton’s blue and tan circle spot shirt – just don't go to the races or they may mistake you for one of the jockeys.(obviously a very stylish one)

Gone are the days when you couldn’t wear a patterned tie with a patterned shirt – experiment with some of the cheaper brands until you are confident for the more expensive ones.
Eton paisley shirt
The rule is when mixing shirt and tie patterns is to make sure they have one colour in common with each other. For different looks you can match the tie with the shirt’s dominant colour or for a more subtle look match with the least dominant colour. The above Eton paisley shirt could be matched with ...
Simon Carter Nouveau navy tie
Simon Carters nouveau navy tie, bringing out the more dominant blue colour ...
Simon Carter Medallion wine tie
.... or Simon Carters medallion wine tie, bringing out the brown in the shirt and the brown in the tie.

Eton striped shirt & tie

When using the same pattern, you can have contrasting colours, but the pattern should not be the same scale – usually the tie’s pattern is the larger or wider if a stripe.

And when you are super confident – then there are no rules!!

Stitch - London’s Dedicated Menswear Trade Show

Stitch held the only dedicated menswear trade show in the UK, bringing together an eclectic mix of designers (new and established) under one roof. The venue was the historical Old Billingsgate Market , the dates 30June and 1 July. Here buyers and press are able to catch a glimpse on upcoming trends.

One new label to look out for is E One Six London.

This new label specialises in luxury shirts with their first collection inspired by the lifestyle of modern man on the move – designed to take him from the office to the bar to home. Smart enough to sharpen up a suit yet relaxed enough to look great with jeans and chinos.

Colours are crisp whites and soft blues and pinks. Designs include plain fronts with striped backs.

The fabric and shirt are produced in a single European factory thus reducing carbon footprint and ensuring quality consistency. At least 35 separate parts go in to constructing one shirt, taking a skilled worker 80 minutes to make a shirt from start to finish.

Each piece is stamped with their logo which refers to the bygone era of the East London Dockers.
