Belstaff Unveils New Brand Campaign

Belstaff unveils its new brand campaign called  “Here Be Dragons”, which holds Belstaff's spirit of adventure right at its core.

The spot brings to life a phrase used when mankind first mapped the world. Unknown places were marked with the statement ‘Here Be Dragons’ to put fear into any would-be adventurers. But this threat only drove people to actively seek out these places, to go beyond their confines and discover the unknown. It became a challenge many were entreated to overcome.

This is the essence of the “Here Be Dragons” campaign, which aims to inspire audiences to go beyond the limitations they may place around themselves and see those boundaries as invitations to where to head to next.
The brand’s return and re-embracement of its roots was celebrated by twelve-time Trial World Champion Dougie Lampkin MBE performing his famous two-wheel routines (bike stunts) in front of the Longton board.

 Photographer;  Christian Weber,
Iconic model Mark Vanderloo was persuaded to come out of retirement, and alongside breakthrough Serbian model Mijo Mihaljcic, the pair were photographed in rugged landscapes that appear uncharted; the sorts of far-flung places that would be hard to reach unless one’s instincts took them beyond their comfort zone.

The models were on a journey themselves – both stating it was the toughest yet most exciting modelling assignment they’d experienced - interacting with their surroundings, as the clothes they were wearing were intended to protect against.

Dunhill AW16 menswear

This season dunhill presents the finest traditions of English gentlemanly dressing, a complete wardrobe update to accommodate contemporary demands:
EVENINGWEAR
Smoking jackets are crafted in velvet whose pile is specially hand cut by one of the last masters of the craft in Japan; the process is time consuming but creates a more dense even nap on the cloth.

Colours include rich inky midnight blue and smoky faded salmon. Black barathea trousers have  a more generous width of grosgrain in the side seam, Black pumps are finished with a hand tied bow.

BLAZERS
The blazer, a dunhill signature. The new silhouette offering for blazers is broadened with cross generational fits that include both a classically structured shoulder, a rounded more English style shoulder and a lastly a completely unstructured relaxed shoulder for a less formal occasion.

Recreated in an array of rich fabrications including the finest airbrushed double faced cashmere, doing away with the need for linings.

FORMAL ATTIRE
Whilst adhering to the best of traditional tailoring practices suiting cuts are softer, more relaxed in their contours and slightly shorter in the body.

The British Warm overcoat, based on civilian re appropriation of offers' greatcoats worn in WWI.is reinvented in a new lighter form using double faced cashmere woven in the UK and dyed to match the unique specification of the British Warm colour,

Trousers are cut with generous British forward facing pleats and cuffed hems. Shirt cottons are woven on 120 year old English looms in humidity controlled environments to ensure the highest quality of cloth.
MOTORITIES
Protective hand engineered pieces. Warm durable leather coats lined in rich shearling; driving blousons in British racing green; a leather topcoat in chestnut goatskin bonded with cashmere directly inspired by one from the dunhill archive. The robust pieces are teamed with polka dots accessories such as fine wool silk scarves whose finely textured surfaces contrast the buff skins of the coats.
Knitwear is in luxuriant six ends of Scottish cashmere. Aran patterned and traditionally cable stitched

The sturdy unlined sheepskin jacket once favoured by English motor racing superstars is reconfigured with the shearling seams kept on the interior, cutting a more subtle silhouette on the outside.

Neck detailing recalls the protective under snoods worn by racing car drivers in the 1950s layered in lightweight silk cashmere. Sweaters have the long tail stripe inspired by the dunhill logo as a signature feature on the neck ribbing. Jeans are cut from a specially woven hard wearing Japanese selvedge denim dyed a matt dark blue.

LCM / BELSTAFF AW16 MENSWEAR COLLECTION ‘HEADING NORTH’

The Belstaff Autumn/Winter ’16 collection is based upon cold adventure riding and the pursuit of freedom, illustrating a journey that takes you through tough terrains, snowy mountains and icy glaciers in comfort and style.

The collection has been designed to meet the demands of protection (ie against water, wind and friction), mobility and adaptability, merging the heritage of Belstaff classics with innovative new materials, constructions and functionalities to ensure unprecedented warmth and comfort.

Outerwear
This season, Belstaff’s iconic wax-cotton styles have been insulated for winter with detachable fur and shearling trims – specifically in four-pocket jackets and fishtail mountain parka styles.

For more extreme cold environments, there is an Arctic duck-down filled all-in-one exploration suit in high performance nylon twill, together with an Arctic duck-down four-pocket parka with a fully adjustable fur-trimmed hood, an internal snow skirt and rib storm-cuffs rendering the ultimate in cold weather protection.

This Arctic genre is endowed with a technical wool/nylon blend, in keeping with Belstaff’s tradition of experimenting with new fabrications that combine functionality and modernity. Furthermore, tri-layer membranes in nylon/wool and finished with insulated nylon linings and rib storm-cuffs enable an even greater degree of breathability and technical performance.

For graphic impact, a new interpretation on the camouflage print has been executed three ways and on a variety of technical and traditional fabrics such as jacquard nylon down and heat-sealed polyurethane.

Coats  - Wool has been given an explorer treatment with long wool/cashmere melton overcoats coming with a water-repellent finish. A classic Speedmaster jacket has been readied for the depths of winter too with a detachable shearling collar, further building upon Belstaff’s outerwear identity.

 Shearling / Leather
Manifold styles of shearling complemented with leather trims present rich textures for this winter.
Longer aviator-style jackets add to the classic four-pocket silhouette.

Moto-inspired zip-through biker and four-pocket silhouettes come in hand-burnished, down-filled, oiled nubuck. These are finished with fur trims, internal rib storm-cuffs and nylon linings.

A stealth black aviator in a clean leather adds a harder modern edge. This season also sees the introduction of the Belstaff Riding jacket, based on a traditional motorcycling style from the 50s.

 Fleece / Knitwear
The concept of mixed media and technical fleece continues for winter with shearling mixed with fleece in a hoodie along with a more technical nylon/fleece mix inspired by the endurance adventure theme.

Belstaff continues to build upon its knitwear identity with the introduction of a British Fair Isle pattern with moto stitch detailing and a new lightweight cashmere group for Winter 16.

The concept of knitwear as outerwear is still key, epitomised by a rich shearling-panelled zip-through knitted bomber with applied leather pockets and a protective high-neck ribbed collar. (model on left)

For the collection’s presentation, Belstaff took over the dilapidated Victorian red-brick arches of Southwark’s Ewer Street, providing a bleak backdrop to set the scene for this cold adventure.

Casting included a mix of established and new faces from all corners of the globe, with veterans Paul Sculfor, Simon Clark and Felix Friedman flanked by key new faces, such as finalists of Model of the Year Tim Schuhmacher and Models.com Break-Out star Sven De Vries, and other youngsters from wider Europe, America, Korea, Japan and Africa.
Levison Wood, contemporary adventurer and Belstaff ambassador, attended as special guest having just returned from his latest challenge of walking the length of the Himalayas. The expedition, which took six months and four-million steps trekking 1,700 miles across the roof of the world, is currently being aired on Sundays at 8pm on Channel 4 and its book was published this week.
He wore the Belstaff ‘Levison’ jacket that he and Fred Dyhr had created especially for his expedition, available to buy from February ’16.

Belstaff SS16 Collection - Desert Explorers

The Men’s 2016 Summer collection develops the concept of the great British desert explorer, an intrepid and adventurous figure, motivated by the desire for discovery in the world’s most hot and unforgiving of landscapes.

In keeping with Belstaff’s history as supplier to the British forces, a strong military influence pervades the collection, with more than a nod to the Desert Rats. This is interwoven with other references from Belstaff’s archive and heritage, such as explorers old and new who have worn the brand; namely Lawrence of Arabia in the 1930s, to those of the present day such as Levison Wood (Walking the Nile) with whom Belstaff has worked on a customised explorer jacket for SS16.

This season, prints take centre stage with Belstaff developing a camouflage pattern that is hand-painted and unique to each piece, and a desert-terrain print inspired by old exploration maps. The hand-crafted camo is found on parkas and pea coats, while the map motif is featured on technical summer-nylon jackets, as well as on innovative dry-touch wax-cotton styles. Other blousons have the functionalism of print on one side and solid nylon on the other. Taping details, inspired by parachute construction, are a theme seen throughout the collection but most prominently in key outerwear pieces such as a full-length lightweight parka in the terrain print. (see image below - far left model)

The desert boot is the key element to this season’s footwear collection, coming in a range of khaki and sand tones and replete with a leather sole. A reinforced patch which loops over the toe makes them uniquely Belstaff. The classic Trialmaster boot has been given a desert-style super-light crepe sole, while a Chelsea boot has been updated in suede and hand-waxed leather options.
For the collection’s presentation, Belstaff has taken over Old Billingsgate Market, an impressive landmark on London’s iconic river Thames with a terrace overlooking Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast to the left, the Shard in front, and London Bridge to the right, in a reaffirmation of the Britishness of the brand, now back on home turf.

Once again referencing Belstaff’s motoring and military heritage, a desert jeep, bike and army tent were deployed to set the scene.

Casablanca beer, mint tea and kebabs were served by Momo’s, London's original North African den. Guests were then drawn into the concept and transported into the desert, where the collection was revealed on relevant models.

Special guest, Jack Fox, (above imgae) the latest talent to emerge from the illustrious Fox dynasty, perfectly embodies the spirit of the collection. His most recent film ‘Theeb’ – about a perilous desert journey - has just been released, and he is about to embark on a West End run playing alongside his father James, in a new stage adaptation of ‘Dear Lupin, Letters to a Wayward Son’

Benedict Cumberbatch wears Belstaff's S. Icon jacket and Ridgewell sweater‏

Benedict Cumberbatch wears Belstaff’s S. Icon jacket and Ridgewell sweater in the first pictures of him and his new wife Sophie since their wedding this weekend.

Belstaff created the S. Icon jacket in 1964 in homage to the hero of speed and style, Steve McQueen. After outfitting him the year before for his role in The Great Escape, this blouson was created as a celebration of his sporting legacy, in hand-waxed cotton with worn-in treatment and diamond quilting to the shoulders, elbows and hemline.

Belstaff’s Ridgewell crewneck sweater comes in fine gauge cotton and references a traditional policeman's sweater with its silken shoulder panels that feature tonal moto stitching. Fine cotton grants a cool, breathable texture that remains wearable in warmer weather. £240
