AM Golhar mens AW12 knitwear collection

AM Golhar loves the styles of  military clothing and so always brings some concept of this in to all of her collections.

This AW12 season she creates shoulder and elbow patches within the knit to give that military jumper feel. Here worn with her checkered knitted jogging bottoms with two rows of cable stitching down the side emulating the stripes worn down military trousers..

The above 'Bobby' style was recreated from the military polo jumper with Am adding a special touch of knitting technique.

Inspired from a 1973 military cape, 'Oscar' is recreated in heavy gauge cashmere knit. Worn here with plain knitted jogging bottoms adorned with a cable stripe at the front seam..

The Corby cardigan was inspired by the blazer jacket with AM changing the shape of the neckline.

Main colour palette is black and shades of grey, but brightened with blues and dark red.

Leyton jumper has a traingular neckline similar to a neck scarf.  In a medium gauge using a diamond lace hole knitting technique. Worn here with knitted joggers using the trellis technique for a 3D textured effect..
Giving a Cossack feel is the Sylvester -assymetrical shape jumper with colour block stripes. worn here with plain knit joggers with cable stripes at the side.

Also in the collection are soft leather joggers, a  popular piece since her AW10 collection.
Her vision for this season was to create a collection with a tailored smart appearance whilst using very luxurious soft yarns such as cashmere, cotton and angora.

AM Golhar's AW11 Knitwear Collection

AM Golhar specialises in men’s knitwear and for her AW11 collection her key look is a variety of polo neck styles.
The colour palette is black and different shades of grey ensuring it’s the textures created by the different knitting techniques that take centre stage.

Blake polo with Thomas joggers
The light silver grey panels of the fitted Blake polo jumper showcase the 3D effect of Am’s signature trellis technique perfectly.
RRP £110.

Here worn with a pair of black Thomas cable knit joggers – one of Am’s original jogger designs.
She came up with the idea of knitted joggers when thinking of warm cable jumpers. She thought they would be playful and fun to wear whilst being warm and soft.
The Thomas jogger is slouchy in the crotch area whilst fitted in the leg

Cameron cowl with Blake joggers

The Cameron is an oversized sloppy polo neck using a medium gauge lace hole technique resulting in what AM calls ‘the diamond lace hole effect’.
Giving the illusion of layering the main body is black with medium grey sleeves and cowl.

Bug v neck with Thomas joggers

Adding a touch of colour and plenty of boyish charm is the Bug jumper. RRP £85. this light grey v neck jersey had black rib and cuffs with a yellow bug print.

Get the Geek Chic Look with Knitwear

Good news, the ‘geek ‘is in and what better way to get that look than by wearing knitwear.
Usually wearing the finer knits is the best way to achieve this look, but the chunky knit is not totally out of the race, it’s more about the geeky accessories.
For fine knit wear a v neck cardigan or jumper. Team with the checked shirt and a pair of skinny or slim fit cords.

This lambswool Kirkhill cardigan in Tartan green edged with sun yellow is just the ticket at £149 down to £80. www.dsdundee.com

The ultimate geek chic look is the v neck tank top in patterns such as stripes, Fair Isle or Argyle.
Hub shop DS Dundee tank top is the one .  www.hubshop.co.uk
Team with a short sleeved shirt buttoned up and a skinny or bow tie.
Shoes should be coloured converse or tan brogues.
Accessories are key – the Geek specs, the shoulder messenger bag with lots of badges pinned on and a super hero buckle belt.

For the chunky knit, it’s the geek at play, which usually means a computer game.
Quality Knitwear’s pure wool Saint George jumper fits the bill whilst playing dungeons and dragons. At £40 the price won’t scorch your wallet. www.qualityknitwear.co.uk

And for the designer geek with a touch of ‘Black Magic’ go for Specialised textile knitwear Designer Am Golhar‘s ‘Blake’ angora blend polo jumper with thick black and grey stripes. Made in trellis stitch for texture. Price £114. Swathe yourself all over in soft wool for that cosy feeling and team with her ‘Thomas’ cable bottoms at £106.

The Chunky Hunky Knits- This time the Cable Guys

The Cable Guys look hunky in the chunky knits, but more of a ‘geek’ look in the finer yarns.
French Connection

Both are a good trendy look, but if you’re going for the hunky look it has to be a chunky knit. This is good for the slimmer guys but for the more rounded guys -why add unnecessary bulk the cables will create?
Musto Summer coast knit- www.musto.com

So either go for a sweater which isn’t all cable stitch. Musto’s Summer Coast knit just has the cable stitch around the shoulders and upper arms, taking the bulk away from the tummy area and drawing the eye towards your shoulders. www.musto.com
Jackson jumper - www.qualityknitwear.co.uk

Or avoid the cable knits all together. Quality Knitwear’s khaki/orange Jackson jumper shows a hand knitted plain stocking stitch is just as effective. Price £60.www.qualityknitwear.co.uk
Ashton & Logan www.am-golhar.com

Specialised textile knitwear Designer Am Golhar shows you can be a double chunky hunk proving that layering is not just for the finer knits. Here we have the hand knitted ‘Logan’ cable crew neck sweater in camel at £238 and the angora blend ‘Ashton’ rib cardigan in dark chocolate at £136. www.am-golhar.com
At the moment her collection is only stocked in Milan (those lucky Italians) but you can email for sales enquiries on info@am-golhar.com

New men's designer Am Golhar's Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection

Specialising in knitwear, Am Golhar gained her expertise of high quality yarns such as alpaca and cashmere from Central St. Martins where she achieved an honours degree in Textiles.
Here she decided to blend her love of creating art through textures with her passion for fashion and created her own menswear range.

When asked why she decided to design knitwear for men instead of women, Am replied:
“Everybody always asks why menswear” (ooops) “But then why do men design for women? I really love men’s knitwear, it’s so fun and exciting and I have so many ideas. It’s a challenge to always create a textured menswear fabric that does not look feminine. I’ve always fallen in to menswear throughout everything I did, if I was creating a swatch it always seemed so masculine, whether in the colours or textures.”

Knitwear is not only restricted to the tops but knitted cable joggers as well, not the usual pair of trousers a guy wears you might say, but Am is aiming for the guy who loves fashion and knitwear and does not mind being quirky.
In her spring/summer 2011 (more details later) she has designed cooler three quarter length knitted bottoms and states “No one does this so why not? I had to”.

On some of her tops the length is long: “I wanted to produce something oversized. All the vest tops are long and oversized – they are just fun and just comfy”

For her autumn/winter 2010 collection, Am took inspiration from body armour and focused on texture.
The shoulders of the tops are round and large to give a body armoured feel................
...........and the hoods and oversized knits resemble chain mail. Chunky and fine gauges are created by both hand and machine knitting, whilst the ladders and hole stitches were hand knitted.
Yarns used were alpacas/wools and cashmere giving a luxurious feel to these edgy designs.
Colours are muted in greys, browns, green, camel and taupes.

A few leather pieces – jogging pants (with a subtle diamond embossed pattern) and jackets complement the collection.

Am recently showcased her collection at Stitch, London’s dedicated trade show and for more details you can contact Am herself on info@am-golhar.com
