Ermenegildo Zegna Couture AW15 at Milan Fashion Week

The Luxury of Choice is eco-solidarity.

Stefano Pilati’s inspiration for AW15 is the uniform of an Eco-leader using original archive Harris Tweeds selected for their authenticity and for their recyclability.

A sense of environmental protection is perceived not only in the garments and accessories but also in the attitude. An attitude of action in the field opens the show interspersed with the pure poetry of the broken suit in both velvet or corduroy, before taking a more urban turn for the second part.

Utilitarian eco-leaders uniforms are translated in jackets with subtly and softly sculpted details where pockets are gathered or pleated, worn with tailored pants either elasticated at the bottom or conceived multifunctional.

Shoes and boots are covered by protection elements with hybrid bags are sporty and luxurious.

Colour palette: grey, charcoal, smoke brown, hazel brown, khaki, sage, mint, salmon, oxblood, plum, black and dark blue.

The set of the show was inspired by Oasi Zegna, the nature park surrounding the Zegna Wool Mill in Trivero, where it will be replanted.

Christoper Raeburn Spring/Summer 2014

Christopher Raeburn is renowned for breathing life back into surplus military fabrics by creating new modern clothing. For his SS14 collection he also turned to the military for inspiration.

Titled Sandstorm, Raeburn looked at the desert uniforms and camouflage colours of the Long Range Desert Group, a British Army reconnaissance and raiding unit in North Africa during WWII.

Surplus military fabrics used included a camouflage bivouac sheet made from 1950’s original rubberised cotton.  Here shown on a Field jacket with draw cord waist and the sleeves of a bomber jacket.

Camouflage print army mesh lines and peeps through the lightweight sand coloured parachute jacket.

Whilst a diaphanous camouflage print covers mint coloured army mesh to create a double layered boxy t-shirt.

Blending old and new, Raeburn also used the high Tec Schoeller fabric - a four way stretch material which offers thermal insulation but is also lightweight, soft and highly breathable.  The design of the print is a stark interpretation of satellite desert imagery.

As a Cool Wool regulating the body temperature by releasing excess heat through its fibres Raeburn chose Merino wool for the softer side to his summer collection.

Main colour palette is neutral shades of sand and khaki with accents of bright blues and pinks.

The pinks represent the colour once used on the unit’s Land Rovers and reveal how broad the colour palette had to be for effective desert camouflage.

Each season Raeburn includes an animal and this season it of course had to be the desert lizard.
You really have to look closely to realise that the lizard has cleverly camouflaged itself to form the geometric mosaic pattern on the t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts and jackets.

A key look in the tailored range of the collection is the gabardine Mac coat with the geometric lizard print.

Topman Spring/Summer 2014 Collection

For SS14, TOPMAN has gone for the rodeo showmanship style with silk embroidered shirts over black skinny polo necks worn with oversized pleated loose trousers and metallic belts.

Absent were the  flashy and garish colours, fringes and rhinestones; this was a more refined cowboy in a winter colour palette of the  classic monochrome black and white with accents of deep burgundies and blue

Plus we can’t forget that ‘There’s gold in them thar collection’.

Embroidery also graced the lapels of tailored silky jackets and jumpers.

But watch out, some of those embroidered flowers have whopping big spiders stitched amongst them! And with this bronze shirt it’s all spiders.

Vinti Andrews AW13 - video and collection

www.vintiandrews.com

Vinti Andrews introduces her AW13-14 collection by manipulating material and texture to glamourize characters from US Slasher movies, specifically from the late 1970's - 80's.
The collection highlights the 'perfect high school victim' stereotype - Goths Vs Jocks for example, is an essential attribute to the theme. Vinti expresses "The idea of opposite sub cultures coming together, joining forces and exchanging traits to find the killer... defeating the enemy."

Agi & Sam SS14 Collection

Truly making travelling on public transport cool, prints from this collection were inspired by the upholstery on bus and train seats

Oversized long sleeved white tees and white trousers sported small placement prints at the front creating silhouettes of skinnier short sleeved crew neck tees and shorts. Maybe an alternative to dieting?

Suits were in colourfully loud jazzy lines with trousers skinny and ankle skimming. Large bags in collaboration with Chapman were a combination of soft leather and the same transport inspired prints in plush velour fabrics. www.chapmanbags.com

Still jazzy but more toned down, the monochrome look was used.

Shorts were knee length and boxy or were tailored with pleated fronts. The footwear was in collaboration with shoe designer Oliver Sweeney. Here the calf leather trainer with thick contrasting soles takes on a clean minimalistic style void of eyelets and laces. www.oliversweeney.com

The collection was not all patterns and prints; the plain fabrics were block colours of summer sky blues and turquoise on blazers ranging from slim with long sleeves to the oversized with short sleeves.

Bright pops of oranges brought an alternative to the cool blues. Check out the Oliver Sweeney derby brogues with their orange nylon tape detailing.

Three quarter length coats were trimmed with rubberised taped seams around the cuffs and creating a border around the contrasting blocks of colour.Left:
Worn with white Oliver Sweeney Chelsea style boots with clear soles embossed with an Agi & Sam pattern.

Colours were not all bold. Both the pale pink shade, the rounded shoulders devoid of epaulettes and the wide lapels softened the usually structured style of the trench coat.

Pristine white was given texture with a tactile and embossed bobbled pattern.

UK Stockists include Liberty, Mr Porter and Harvey Nichols.
