SALVATORE FERRAGAMO AW16 MENSWEAR COLLECTION - FASHION WEEK

This season Salvatore Ferragamo presents a tailored blank canvas upon which a rich tapestry of fabrics, colours, motifs, textures and volumes is applied.

The resulting collection offers a luxurious collision of worlds, expressing the intricacies and idiosyncrasies of the modern man. A pair of Andy Warhol's paint-splattered, classic Ferragamo Oxfords heralded the starting point for Creative Director Massimiliano Giornetti. The shoes mix of formality and relaxed artistry became a metaphor and mission statement for a collection that transforms the classic menswear wardrobe into a platform for character, emotion and experience. Paradox and contradiction is key: 'perfect' matches are avoided; clashes embraced.

Sharply tailored single and double-breasted suits in finest British mohair and Italian wool are presented in herringbone, houndstooth and Prince of Wales checks, providing a monochrome framing within which to showcase knitwear, silk shirts and scarves in a kaleidoscopic explosion of colour and printed patterns.

Classic mens outerwear explores further juxtapositions. Heritage and modernity, geometric and the freeform, sharpness and softness all interact to create a new sartorial language. The bomber jacket is reconfigured with a patchwork of rich shearling and ultra modern Japanese nylon, or woven in black and white trompe l'oeil Jacquard motifs; the winter Macintosh is presented in pure white; shearling coats bring layered volume to overcoats and tan leather flying jackets; indeed, duality becomes literal within a reversible cotton and mohair parka.

The precision of the paint-dripped Oxfords - presented in leather or suede, some inner-lined with coloured shearling or extended into ankle boots - is offset by the softness of canvas, suede or shearling, holdall bags, which in a wink to the utilitarian needs of the masculine wardrobe, also transforms into backpacks.

Ermenegildo Zegna Couture AW16-17 Fashion Show

In the era of images, where everyone seeks to embellish, distinguish and advertise himself, Stefano Pilati defines the Ermenegildo Zegna Fall Winter 2016/17 collection by making the act of embellishment a “classic”.

The Couture line, pinnacle to the Ermenegildo Zegna offering, is now harmoniously blended with the concept of “embellishment”, becoming the manifesto of a unique “Haute Couture for men” proposal: an exceptionally sophisticated wardrobe ruled by fearless style.

The traditional manual tailoring statute of the brand is charmingly translated into an exhibition of patterns, primary inspiration behind the FW16 collection.

The most iconic masculine motifs from around the world have been collected and fused into the lushness of the fabrics that keep emphasizing the Haute Couture attitude in an effortless and yet ‘extremely Zegna’ way.

All over the fabrics are embellished with three dimensional hand embroideries realized in Italy, ornamental motifs and woven patchwork of jacquards patterns: from super fine Lanificio Zegna wools to recycled polyester.

Ermenegildo Zegna Couture AW15 at Milan Fashion Week

The Luxury of Choice is eco-solidarity.

Stefano Pilati’s inspiration for AW15 is the uniform of an Eco-leader using original archive Harris Tweeds selected for their authenticity and for their recyclability.

A sense of environmental protection is perceived not only in the garments and accessories but also in the attitude. An attitude of action in the field opens the show interspersed with the pure poetry of the broken suit in both velvet or corduroy, before taking a more urban turn for the second part.

Utilitarian eco-leaders uniforms are translated in jackets with subtly and softly sculpted details where pockets are gathered or pleated, worn with tailored pants either elasticated at the bottom or conceived multifunctional.

Shoes and boots are covered by protection elements with hybrid bags are sporty and luxurious.

Colour palette: grey, charcoal, smoke brown, hazel brown, khaki, sage, mint, salmon, oxblood, plum, black and dark blue.

The set of the show was inspired by Oasi Zegna, the nature park surrounding the Zegna Wool Mill in Trivero, where it will be replanted.
