Katie Eary SS18 mens collection at London Fashion Week:Mens

In collaboration with three iconic brands bonded by their history in British street fashion- Boy London, Spliffy and Pretty Green, this collection exists in a universe of Eary's imagination,

A huge space garage somewhere between Camden Market and the Fifth Element, maintained by orb-headed mechanics in crew neck neoprene tees and bungey cord belts.

The lux juxtaposes with the rough:

Heavy trims and washed denims, pants worn low to reveal silk boxers.

Prints are of a vivid imagination of the insect world beneath us in emerald and neon blue.- of creepy crawlies and beautiful butterflies.

Katie Eary AW16 Menswear Collection

This season was inspired by popular music culture/subculture sparked by ' The Sacred Triangle' documentary and Iggy & Lou 1971-1973 - a film analyzing the influences artists Lou Reed and Iggy Pop had on David Bowie.
Video of the show's finale

"I've been developing my idea of gender fluidity but with a working story of rock stars, artists, playwrights, and musos and groupies. I'm imaging swapping ideals, creative genres, clothes and mannerisms." says Katie Eary

"Following the journey of the clothing from lover to stage outfits. I was taken by Iggy Pop and Nico's brief fling leading to the idea of them swapping clothes in the process of creating music and being lovers. This rule applied to all rockstars (of that time) with their lovers - it's my version of magpie androgony."

A key colour backdrop for this season is black, a first time for the colour and print orientated designer. It has been used throughout the collection to highlight a more mature luxe feel to an already exotic and eclectic fusion of motifs.

Katie Eary SS16 Menswear at London Collections: Men

Titled Veneered Innocence
Inspiration for the SS16 collection came from the 1950's - an era that appeared to be on its best behaviour yet, beneath the well-mannered surface, seethed something subversive and rebellious. These compelling conflicts gave rise to a new breed: the teenager.

Katie's muse is the young Elvis Presley- wholesome and smiling in a sugar pink bowling shirt, humbly nodding 'Yes ma'am' and 'No sir', yet shocking the world with his potent and threatening sexuality. He encapsulates the 50's veneer of innocence, polite and deferential but beneath his polished surface he is an an intoxicating and dangerous mixture of masculine insolence and charismatic defiance.

The SS16 collection channels such contradictions with pastel shade shirts and dusty ombre trousers in pea greens, aubergine, aquas and oranges with dulled out beiges, pinks and teals.

Prints subvert innocence taking the iconic My Little Pony and debasing it with sinister and sexual overtones.

Trompe l'oeil appears as beat up denim and heavy knit print onto fine gauge knitwear.

Fabrics are selected to represent the glossy sheen of childish plastic toys: heavy and light weight satins, silks, poly blends, suedes, leather and gold hardware.
Key pieces: Aubergine suede bomber jacket, pastel Gabicci-esque polo shirts and silk satin pony print shirts

Oversized curb link key chains and bracelets by Hatton Garden's Toby Mclellen

Sunglasses by General Eyewear.

Topman Menswear Rules Britannia with NewGen Designers

Topman launches a t-shirt collection to celebrate and support home-grown British talent.
Five NewGen designers were asked to create a t-shirt designed around the title ‘Menswear Rules Britannia’. Their take on this title was then produced on premium white roll-sleeved cotton tee, prices start at £18
Here's their designs:

Katie Eary

Describing herself as a true British patriot,  'Menswear Rules Britannia' means everything to her, she thinks her design sums this up perfectly. The print derives from two of her favourite things, the screaming cheetah (she loves anything from the feline family) and British military - in this case a Queen’s guards hat.

Sibling

The newly recruited NewGen Men collective Sibling (Sid Bryan, Joe Bates and Cozette McCreery) designed a print that is reminiscent of a souvenir from a weekend away or a fun day out. It is a knitted twist on a celebratory, quintessentially English memento of youthful camaraderie. In the synonymously British colours of red, white, and blue this t-shirt screams ‘Menswear Rules Britannia’.

 James Long

The Fashion Forward 2012 winner designed a print based around all the different layers and history of being British. On close inspection you can see that Long has subtlety worked the Union Jack flag into his print.(better seen in the lifestyle image -check out the first straight line after the zig zags)

 Lou Dalton

Dalton commissioned Alex Walker to hand draw faces of British Icons for her quirky design, sketches include: Elton John, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie among a few, all whom she felt have influenced British popular culture over the years.

and Christopher Shannon.

Renowned for re-working sportswear, Shannon has designed a t-shirt using his trademark all-over print design. This design uses a powerful ‘ MAN UP’ slogan.

£5 from the sale of each t-shirt will go to The British Fashion Council Princess of Wales Charitable Trust to support young designers.

. The project will launch on the 7th June 2012, and will be available in selected stores worldwide and on-line www.topman.com
