Original Penguin AW17 - Cafe Counter Culture

For this collection, the brand looks towards The New York School of the Fifties. Jack Kerouac, Jackson Pollack, Lucian Carr, Lucian Freud and Alan Ginsberg and the generation that they inspired. - They meet in the cafes and bars of the Lower East side in Manhattan New York to talk about how they want to change the world. They wear an anti-uniform to distinguish themselves from the crowd.

Their style draws from an eclectic medley of sources to create an irreverent wardrobe that challenges the classic look of the status quo.

Simple and clean are re-invented to create modern and unique with sometimes the most subtle of touches like tone on tone texture shifts of matte to shiny.

Jackson's Pollock’s technique of pouring and dripping paint is thought to be one of the origins of the term action painting. Pollock was able to achieve a more immediate means of creating art, the paint now literally flowing from his chosen tool onto the canvas. The Splatter story takes inspiration from the Pollocks famed abstract expressionist drips and gives our knits, wovens, and outerwear a fresh, artistic 50’s / 90’s update.

Paint By Numbers kits were invented, developed and marketed in 1950 by Max S. Klein, an engineer and owner of the Palmer Paint Company of Detroit, Michigan, and Dan Robbins, a commercial artist. The Paint by Numbers group takes a whimsical look at the idea of being an artist. With our paint by numbers floral… anyone can be an artist

Plush - fabrications that have a brushed hand, a cut nap or pile that offers a luxurious softness. The plush group focuses on soft and luxurious textures. Sueded knits, brushed flannels and cosy teddy bear style sherpa

The Trend For Relaxed Fits and oversized garments in both tops and bottoms has been entering the market for a year or two now, and is finally hitting mainstream. With Raw finishes it hints a bit at 90s normcore, but done in clean fleece or jersey styles it feels modern and relaxing

Technical Innovation continues within outerwear constructions, making garments in the range 2, 3 and 4 in one! Reversible jacket: 2 in 1
