South Korean designer, SONGZIO presented his SS18 collection
entitled “Crossing Veils” at London Fashion Week Men’s. This season marks the
brand’s third UK showcase
outside of the Paris and Seoul fashion weeks.
“Crossing Veils” was
inspired by the phrase: ‘Man, in his night, searches for his own light’- man’s
emotional journey from a boy’s curiosity in all things, a young man’s ambitions
to a lover’s yearning - always searching
for a way to express and show his feelings in a rigid society.
It’s stripes, stripes and more stripes – ranging from jaunty
wide awning stripes teamed with candy striped shirts, chic clean calk stripes
teamed with shadow striped shirts,
to the more sombre classic pinstripe and tonal stripes

Look closely and you’ll find a print inside the awning and
candy stripes. This print took inspiration from two portrait paintings by
Velasquez depicting the Infanta Margarita Teresa in both a pink and a blue
dress, Songzio has painstakingly translated Velasquez’s loose brushstrokes on
to printed textiles inside his vertical awning stripes.
Colour palette juxtaposes the brand’s classic black and
white with the more whimsical royal
blue, yellow and an orange shade very close to the pink shade used by
Velasquez.
Sharply tailored fit jackets with shawl collars contrast against
the loose and playful silhouettes of shirts.
Trousers range from billowing to slim
T-shirts sport watercolour painting prints.
For this season SONGZIO has designed two pieces of footwear
including derby’s embellished with metal studs and sandals.
